As social media platforms become more popular, more and more businesses are using them to their advantage to advertise and reach new clients. Besides Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat have become valuable platforms for marketing. If you are a business owner, a majority of your audience owns a smartphone. To get more people to know about your business or services, a smart play would be to bring your message to where the people are and social media is where its at. So, between Instagram and Snapchat, which one is better for your business?
Instagram: Instagram was created in 2010 by Stanford graduates Kevin System and Mike Krueger (26 at the time). Using Instagram, you are able to post photos and videos to the other users on Instagram (If you’re profile is on private – only to those who you allow to follow you). Instagram offers permeance on your videos and posts and they will stay on your profile unless you delete them. You can also run ads on Instagram (via Facebook).
Snapchat: Snapchat was launched in 2011 and quickly rose to popularity. You can take pictures, videos, use cute and funny filters and save them to your story and share them with your friends. The “stories” feature started with snapchat, in which your posts will be saved into your story for 24 hours and then disappear. You could choose how long you want your viewers to see your post for, up to 10 seconds.
I’m going to compare the features of the Instagram and Snapchat apps and it’s up to you to decide which one is best for your personal use and for business use.
Snapchat: Snapchat allows you to take some pretty awesome pictures with awesome filters, but they only last up to 24 hours and then disappear … forever.
Instagram: Pictures on instagram allows you to get new followers, likes and gives you a history. Images are usually higher quality (unless you still have a flip-phone) on Instagram and you can use many filters to edit your image. You can also get likes on your posts, which will make you feel better about what you’re posting and allow you to interact with everyone who liked your picture. Instagram also has an extension for pictures (LAYOUT & Boomerang)
Snapchat: Snapchat only lets you record a video up to 10 seconds long. You can throw a filter or 2 over it if you’d like, but they also disappear after 24 hours in your story.
Instagram: Instagram allows your video to be anywhere from 3-60 seconds long, lasts until you delete them, and you can also record multiple video clips into one video. You can also upload a video from your phone’s library, which Snapchat doesn’t allow. Instagram also has other add-ons for videos, such as Boomerang, Hyperlapse.
